tsrs 0.18.0 is a Rust port of the TypeScript compiler, announced October 20, 2026 by Cloudflare and VoidZero with Max Schwenk of Owner.com, who did the port. Cloudflare says it was built in collaboration with the TypeScript team. You install it from npm (npm install tsrs, then npx tsrs) and run it like tsc against your tsconfig.json. It's Apache-2.0 and labelled experimental.
How we tested. October 20, 2026, on an 8-core Linux box. We installed it from npm and verified the package signatures and provenance, then ran it against TypeScript 7.0.2 on three projects: Microsoft's Playwright repo, TypeScript's compiler benchmark sample and this website. Errors were byte-identical on all three, including 12 we planted ourselves. On Playwright it finished in 0.24 s against 1.54 s (6.4×) with 384 MB peak memory against 1,125 MB. The full test is in the story.
Pro: The same diagnostics as TypeScript in our runs, 3.3× to 6.4× faster and with roughly 60% to 70% less memory.
Con: It follows a TypeScript 7.1 nightly, not 7.0.2. With errors and --noEmit it exited with code 2 where TypeScript 7.0.2 exits with 1. --init isn't supported, and there's no Windows binary yet.
