Cat Wu — formerly Head of Product for Claude Code (and Cowork) at Anthropic — is joining OpenAI to lead product management for Core Products.

She said so on X on Nov 5, 2026 (@_catwu (opens in a new tab); the post had roughly 3.6M impressions when we checked). OpenAI confirmed the hire to Business Insider (opens in a new tab). She reports to Thibault Sottiaux (@thsottiaux (opens in a new tab)) and will work with OpenAI's enterprise and consumer product leaders. Anthropic declined comment.

Timing. Her last day at Anthropic was Friday, Oct 30 (she said that on Tuesday). Anthropic's IPO is planned later this month; The Next Web (opens in a new tab), citing an amended filing, puts Anthropic revenue around $17B. Weeks before that window, the product lead behind Claude Code is walking into the rival that ships Codex.

What MODEL did not do. We did not interview Wu, OpenAI, or Anthropic. We did not invent a valuation. The IPO timing ("planned later this month") and the ~$17B revenue figure are attributed to TNW on the amended filing — not independently verified by MODEL.

Why it matters. Claude Code and Codex are the two loudest coding-agent brands in the room. The person who owned product on one side now owns Core Products PM on the other — right as Anthropic heads toward a public listing. That is a personnel story with product consequences, not a rumor mill.
