Yesterday OpenAI talked about Pando, its internal Git backend for agent-scale monorepos. Today it announced it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc. ("Pierre") — the company whose libraries already power file browsing and change review inside the Codex app.

What Pierre is. Per OpenAI's Nov 4, 2026 post, Pierre is behind Code Storage and a family of open-source developer tools focused on Git workflows: reviewing changes, navigating projects, and storing code history.

What's already in Codex. If you've browsed files or reviewed a change in the Codex app, OpenAI says you've already used Pierre's Trees and Diffs libraries. Trees navigates a project's files; Diffs shows what changed. Diffs' Edit mode lets a reviewer fix a line where they spot the problem. Pierre also recently released Highlights, a fast syntax highlighter that updates as a developer types or an agent streams code.

Code Storage and the post-close plan. Code Storage is a service that lets apps store code and track history using Git. OpenAI's ambition after the acquisition closes is to advance source control and make Codex the place where developers and agents take on ambitious projects — connecting shipped code with the decisions people make. Customers can continue using Code Storage after close while OpenAI works to bring its features into Codex. Pierre's open-source projects stay open-source; OpenAI says it will keep contributing.

Pando context. Earlier this week OpenAI shared Pando, its in-house Git-compatible backend for engineers and agents. The Pierre deal is framed as the other half of that story: systems around Git have to evolve for parallel agent work — from the first branch an agent creates to code shipping to production.

The catch. Financial terms are not disclosed. Closing is subject to customary conditions, including regulatory approvals. Until closing, OpenAI and Pierre remain separate and independent. Trees/Diffs are already used in Codex; folding Code Storage into Codex is a post-close ambition, not something OpenAI claims is finished today. Not tested by MODEL. Not sponsored.
