Apple put AI at the center of everything. Then it put engineers on a $200/day AI allowance.
SummaryBloomberg via MacRumors (Nov 4): some Apple engineers cut from $300/day AI spend to $200 in October; further cuts toward $100 for some eng and $25 for some non-eng discussed. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini allowed. Employees can seek executive exemptions. $AAPL. Not investment advice.

On November 4, 2026, MacRumors relayed a Bloomberg report: Apple is putting employees on an AI budget.
The numbers (as reported). In October, Apple limited some engineers to $200 per day for AI spending, down from $300. More cuts could be coming: daily allowances for some engineers dropping toward $100. Many groups outside engineering already sit at a $100 daily limit, and some teams could be capped at $25. Employees who need more can ask executives for an increase. Apple is also asking some teams to use cheaper models or switch to on-device AI.
The tools. Engineers get the largest budgets because coding burns tokens. MacRumors says Apple lets employees use Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and other models.
The joke. Apple is pushing AI to the center of operations — and just put its own builders on an AI allowance that looks a lot like lunch money.
Caveats. Bloomberg's sourcing is anonymous; Apple had no comment in the MacRumors write-up. Some staff told Bloomberg that few were hitting the old $300 daily limit, so the savings may be small. Productivity-consultant reviews are also in the mix and have fueled restructuring chatter — that is rumor territory, not a confirmed layoff plan. MODEL has not tested Apple's internal AI tooling. Not sponsored.
$AAPL. Apple Inc. closed around $349.51 on Yahoo Finance's regular session for November 4, 2026 (refetched for this piece). Not investment advice.

Claude helped map the first prokaryotic vault particle
Anthropic's biology lab used Claude to find, isolate, and solve the first 3D structure of a vault particle from a bacteriophage protein (L05) made in E. coli — 96 copies, ~9.5 megadaltons, first model in ~34 hours. Function still unknown. Preprint submitted to bioRxiv.
